Dame Evelyn Glennie

"Dame Evelyn Elizabeth Ann Glennie, DBE (born 19 July 1965)

is a Scottish virtuoso percussionist. She was the first full-time solo percussionist in 20th-century western society.

Glennie has been profoundly deaf since age 12. This does not inhibit her ability to perform at the international level. She regularly plays barefoot during both live performances and studio recordings in order to "feel" the music better."

Ludwig Van Beethoven

"(baptized 17 December 1770 – 26 March 1827)

was a German composer and pianist. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in Western art music, he remains one of the most famous and influential composers of all time.

Around 1796, Beethoven began to lose his hearing. He suffered from a severe form of tinnitus, a "ringing" in his ears that made it hard for him to hear music; he also avoided conversation.
